RAM is a very important feature of any smartphone. It is a super-fast type of memory that stores the apps you’ve opened since you turned on your phone.  It helps you in returning to an app you’ve previously used. Because of it, you can pick up right where you left off, without delay. Without RAM, apps would close themselves when you switch to another app.  This would have led to a lot of delays when you revisit the one you’ve previously used. So in a nutshell we can say that more the RAM a phone has better it performs.

Recently a survey was conducted by AndroidAuthority Portal. It delved into understanding the customer preference for RAM size in smartphones.

8GB is the most popular RAM size

A survey conducted by the AndroidAuthority portal saw participation from almost 40,000 users and yielded some interesting results. Two options were found to be more popular among users. The majority (32%) voted in favor of 8 GB, stating that it is sufficient for the time being. At the same time, a considerable number of respondents (25.9%) thought 6 GB would be enough. While 15% of users are satisfied with 4 GB, almost 20% prefer 12 GB or more.

It should be noted that overall results are not surprising. 8 GB of RAM has become a common option even among mid-range smartphones. Hence, unsurprisingly, this was the most popular answer.

New Phones are coming up with RAM that can be virtually expanded

One of the latest trends in the market is the virtual expansion of RAM. This is achieved by allocating an additional volume of internal storage. This technology is already being practiced by various industry players like Huawei, Vivo, Nubia, OnePlus, and Xiaomi. This new trend of “Swapping” of the RAM allows you to increase the speed of data processing, and launch several applications at the same time.

Vivo X60 Pro comes with this facility of virtually increasing the amount of RAM by 3 GB. So, instead of 8 GB and 12 GB, the users are able to use 11 GB and 15 GB, respectively. Oppo is also gearing up to increase the Ram by 7GB.

It should be noted that the amount of RAM on the smartphone does not increase, but simply borrows a part of the built-in memory. It results in added space for ongoing functions.

Amazing Technology huh…never fails to surprise us.
