Indian Railways Create 70,000 Beds In 4,400 Rail Coaches Across India To Fight Covid-19 Pandemic
Making sure to play its part in the fight against COVID-19, the Indian Railways has made 70,000 isolation beds available for patients infected with the Chinese virus.
The Indian Railways is also taking great efforts to find out ways to make sure that working is convenient for the State medical personnel on duty.
Indian Railways Ministry Allots 70,000 Beds In 4400 Covid Care Coaches
The Ministry of Railways has confirmed that 70,000 isolation beds have been made available by the Railways in over 4,400 Covid Care Coaches.
These coaches will be served as Isolation Units and will be able to be easily moved and set up at places of demand on the network of the Indian Railways. As per reports, the Indian Railways, along with the respective District Authorities is working on quick memorandum agreement of shared responsibilities and rapid action plans
As per the latest news, the Railways has also positioned the coaches at Sabarmati, Chandlodiya and Dimapur respectively as the Isolation Coaches requested by the States of Nagaland and Gujarat.

Logistical Solutions, Convenience For Medical Personnel
The Railway authorities have also taken it upon themselves to provide logistical solutions such as supported ramps on stair-cases for hassle-free transport of sick patients. In addition to that, make-shift tents, area segregation has also been set up by the national transporter.
This will make sure that there is better isolation on railway platforms. The railway platforms will be acting as a freeway for movement for the medical personnel and supplies.
The railway personnel have also worked to rehabilitate some of the ramps on a war footing.
As of now, 232 coaches have been handed over to various states for Covid care. In compliance with the demand of states these coaches also come with more than 4000 beds.
21 coaches have also been made functional for the medical emergencies at Palghar according to the terms of agreement with the district authorities. Two sets of oxygen cylinders have also been provided in these coaches so as to meet any exigency by the State Health Authorities in many places.
The latest demand has come from the State Government of Gujarat, for whom the Railways has employed 10 coaches for Sabarmati and 6 coaches for Chandoliya in terms of a Memorandum of Agreement with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
