7th Pay Commission: Railways Ask Govt Not To Take Back Night Duty Allowance Of These Employees
To provide a huge relief to its employees, the Indian Railways has taken a big step for those employees who are also central government employees.
What Is This Initiative?
The national transporters management has gone ahead and written a letter to the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT).
In this lettere they have asked the Centre to stop recovery of the Night Duty Allowance.
This is basically given to those central government employees in the Indian Railways who were given this allowance before the Centre tweaked Night Duty Allowance rule.
The Railways has stopped recovery of the Night Duty Allowance being given to its employees before the Centre changed 7th CPC (central pay commission) Night Duty Allowance rule and Rs 43,600 ceiling was imposed, said Anoop Sharma, General Secretary — Delhi Zone, Northern Railways.
They have raised their demand that in case the Indian Railways is not paying Night Duty Allowance to its employees, then it should not ask its employees to come for duty at night, Sharma added.
Further saying that the ceiling is non-viable for Indian Railways as the majority of the railway staff being posted at station duty are above the ceiling.
So, If they won’t be given Night Duty Allowance, then asking them to come at night for duty is unjust.
Night Duty Allowance
Speaking on the development he mentioned that the DoPT should understand the work culture of central government employees associated with the Indian Railways and take proper decision in this regard.
While changing the Night Duty Allowance rule, the Centre also changed the Night Duty Allowance calculation formula.
As per the latest rule, one’s Night Duty Allowance is calculated as [{Basic Pay + Dearness Allowance (DA)}/2001].
So this is the formula which is being used in all central government offices and ministries.
Prior to this, the Night Duty Allowance was equal for all employees of the same grade pay.
While, the latest rule considers one’s basic pay for calculation.
