Railway Ministry Announces New Unreserved Special Trains
The Railway Ministry had announced earlier this year that passengers will be enabled to book unreserved tickets. This will be offered via the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) on the mobile app that has been reintroduced.
As of now, some of the major railway routes on which these unreserved special trains are running include Baramulla Junction – Banihal section (Jammu & Kashmir), Baramulla Junction – Badgam section (Jammu & Kashmir), Delhi – Tundla section (Uttar Pradesh), Kanpur Central – Tundla section (Uttar Pradesh), Kanpur Central – Phaphund section (Uttar Pradesh).
A statement has been issued by the Railway Ministry, which states that the unreserved train services are being introduced in a phased manner. The statement has also clarified that the reason behind the reintroduction of the UTS on the mobile app facility is to avoid crowding at ticket counters and ensure that social distancing is being followed to avoid any further spreading of the COVID-19 virus.
Tickets Can Be Booked Through UTS on The Mobile App
As per the statement, the facility of the UTS on the mobile app will also be made available on non-suburban sections of zonal Railways. The facility is now only available in the suburban sections.
The facility of the UTS on the mobile application was discontinued by the Indian Railways when the COVID-19 virus was discovered and led to a lockdown being imposed on the entire country.
Recently, it was announced that The Indian Railways will run Holi special trains to alleviate the festival’s passenger rush. Weekly, bi-weekly, tri-weekly, and regular special trains to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra are among the Holi special trains.
As per reports, the Northern Railway has announced the addition of 18 pairs of new special trains for passengers’ convenience during Holi. During the ride, passengers must adhere to all Covid-19-related protocols and guidelines.
However, these trains will not be continued past March 31, 2021.
