Hyundai Creta Sales Grew By 1675%! Checkout Top 10 Best Selling Cars In February, 2021

Hyundai Creta

Priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 17.5 lakh the Creta is sold in 5 trims in India- the E, EX, S, SX and SX(O). It debuted in Feb 2020. Its sales figures took a bump when the Kia Seltos arrived in the market soon after but recovered soon enough.

The mid-size SUV gained the #1 seller status later last year on multiple occasions. It recorded 12,428 sold units in Feb this year, a stark contrast to 700 units just a year before- thus registering an Year-on-Year volume growth of 1675%.

Feb 2021 turned out to be a fantastic period for the car when it became the 5th top selling passenger car in India. The first 4 spots belonged to 4 of Maruti Suzuki’s entry level offerings. 

The Creta’s main rivals in the tightly packed mid size SUV market are the Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, MG Hector and Nissan Kicks.

It comes in 3 different engine variants:

  • 1.5 litre 4-cylinder petrol unit offers 115 PS max power, 144 Nm torque
  • 1.5 litre 4-cylinder diesel unit churning out 115 PS and 250 Nm
  • 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol- the most power packed of the 3 which produces 140 PS max power and 242 Nm torque.

10 Hottest Sellings Cars as of Feb 2021

The Indian auto industry saw a hectic February as 4 \-wheelers made a killing by selling 308,593 units as opposed to 250,645 units in Feb 2020- that is a Y-o-Y growth of 23.1%, an encouraging figure in an economy mired in the coronavirus pandemic. 

All figures are those registered in Feb 2021, with Feb 2020 figures for comparison.

1) Maruti Swift 

The car swiftly became one of Maruti Suzuki’s old faithful recording 20,264 units sold, a jump from 18,696 units in Feb 2020.

2) Maruti Baleno

Coming in a close second it sold 20,070 units, a hike from 16,585 in the last year. This means the car registered a 21% jump in sales.

3) Wagon R 

It sold 18,728 units against 18,235 units- a 3% YoY increase in volume.

4) Maruti Alto

In a reverse trend the Alto faced a negative 6% sales growth since it sold only 16,919 units, a low from 17,921 the same period last year. 

5) Hyundai Creta

It boasts of an astonishing 1675% growth making it the top selling SUV in India in Feb 2021, ranking 5th in overall figures. 

It took a leap from a paltry 700 units in Feb 2020 and came back roaring with 12,428 units just a year later. This success can be attributed to a new gen launch in Mar 2020.

6) Maruti Dzire

It registered a YoY hike of 63%, selling 11,901 units last month- a growth from 7296 units before. 

7) Maruti Eeco

It enjoyed a modest 6% growth with 11,891 units sold. 

8) Maruti Vitara Brezza

It registered a 69% growth in sales, capping off the month with 11,585 units sold (vs 6866 a year before)

9) Hyundai Venue

It sold 11,224 units after 10,321 units sold a year before- a 9% jump.

10) Hyundai Grand i10 Nios

Rounding off the list, it saw a small decline in sales at 10,270 units- 137 less than 10,407 last year- a negative trend of -1%.
