This City Will Get India’s 1st Ever 100% AC Railway Terminal! How Will It Work?

There is a popular notion when it comes to the train travel that it is not at par with air travel. If you are such a snob, kidding, but if you are of such an opinion that you might have to change your minds after witnessing Visvesvaraya Terminal in Bengaluru. Visvesvaraya Terminal, which is in Baiyappanahalli is India’s first AC railway terminal.

The terminal which shall have state-of-the-art facilities, and will be a first for India’s railway transit infrastructure will soon be inaugurated. Jaw dropping pictures of the Visvesvaraya Terminal were shared by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Twitter.

About The Visvesvaraya Terminal

Connected by lifts and escalators, a foot over bridge and two subways, there are seven platforms in the terminal. It is spread over 4,200 sq. m and is expected to serve a footfall of 50,000 daily. The terminal has been build at a cost of Rs 314 crore. According to the reports, 50 trains per day will be operated in the terminal.

Other Amenities at the terminal are:-

  • Upper class waiting hall
  • Food court
  • A VIP lounge
  • A digital real-time information hub
  • A 4-lakh-litre water recycling plant
  • A parking which can accommodate 900 two-wheelers, over 200 cars, 50 auto-rickshaws and 5 BMTC-size buses.

With railways getting such a grandiose makeover, coupled with the pandemic which has brought huge attention back to domestic travel we could expect train travel picking up in some days.
