Mumbai Local Starts Today For General Public, Only In These Time Slots; Monthly, Yearly Passes Gets Extension (Check Rules)

With Mumbai local trains open to all from today (Feb 1), there are certain relaxations provided by the Railways to commuters who had their local train passes renewed before lockdown but could not avail the services, leading to expiration of their passes.

Railway officials have allowed such commuters an extension to their expired passes, in order to compensate for the unused days amid the lockdown. 

We will also brief you up with the time slots permissible for the general public, i.e. non-essential workers.

Mumbai Locals Time Slots From Feb 1

Announced on Friday, the local train services in Mumbai will resume for everyone from February 1, as proposed by Union railways minister Piyush Goyal.

There will however, be time slots fixed for the general public as well as essential workers so that crowd control can be kept at a check.

The trains will be available in three time slots for non-essential workers, or general public:

• From the day’s first service till 7am,
• 12pm to 4pm, and
• From 9 pm to the last train of the day.

For essential workers, the time slots will be from:

• 7am to 12pm, and
• 4pm to 9pm.

Expired Local Train Passes Extended

All the local train commuters who have their monthly, quarterly, or yearly passes expired due to the unused days during the lockdown, will be given an extension depending on the unused days of the pass, while travelling on the Western and Central Railway.

Sumit Thakur, CPRO, WR says, 

“We will be giving extension to all the pass holders whose validity expired amid nationwide lockdown and were not able to use it. 

Following which we directed everyone to not stop any pass holders whose passes expired during the lockdown period.”

This means you can use your expired train pass for the number of days you’ve left them unused due to the nationwide lockdown, while the ticket checkers are instructed to not stop such commuters.

Additional Forces Deployed for Crowd Control

Another very important parameter the Railways is focusing cautiously upon, is crowd control.

TOI reports the count of current local train commuters to be around 15 lakh, which is expected to rise up to 40 lakh commuters from Monday.

In regards to the same, Railways will deploy additional numbers of the Railway Police Force and Government Railway Police at the railway stations, during non-peak hours.

Thakur adds, “We have formed teams and sanitisation of cabins and seating areas is being done. We will be increasing entry and exit points, ticket booking counters with time.

Our staff including Railway Police Force and Government Railway Police officials will be available to regulate the crowd.”

All the restricted entry and exit points will be open, ATVM will be made functional and the Identity cards of the commuters travelling during peak hours will be checked.

Moreover, all the non-essential commuters have been requested to not travel during peak hours and follow the time slot given by the state government.
