India’s biggest automobile manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India Limited is all set to launch models fitted with diesel engines. A new 1.5 litre diesel engine is all ready to be fitted in Maruti’s cars, such as Brezza, Ciaz & Ertiga.

The company had stopped selling cars with diesel engines last year, but news is that the company is looking to come back with diesel engines in this new year.

Maruti Suzuki To Come Back With Diesel Engine; New 1.5 Litre Engine Is All Ready

Maruti Suzuki is planning to make this comeback in diesel engines with the newly developed  1.5-litre unit which aligns with BS6 iteration. 

While the power and other output of the engine is not yet revealed, the expected specifications are that the car will produce 94 bhp and 225 Nm like the previous version that was compliant with the BS4. 

Also, the previous one was paired with 6 speed manual transmission and the same is expected to come with this as well. There is also the possibility of the company providing automatic transmission with the diesel engine so that the rising demand in the market will be met with. 

To improve the car’s fuel efficiency, Maruti Suzuki might use a mild hybrid system as well. 

Which Cars Will Come With Maruti’s New Diesel Engine?

The engine will most probably be fitted on various cars by MSIL, including Maruti Vitara Brezza, Maruti Ertiga, Maruti XL6, Maruti Ciaz, Maruti S-Cross.

Reports are that the engine will first be introduced in in the Ciaz and the Ertiga. Also, the engine will power the next generation Vitara Brezza (codenamed YXA). this next-gen Maruti Vitara Brezza is expected to be launched in the third quarter of 2021, before Diwali. As per reports, this car will be launched with a petrol engine and a diesel engine will be introduced later on. 

Another report suggests that the BSVI compliant 1.5-litre diesel engine will be powering a new crossover, codenamed D22. This crossover/SUV is being developed  by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Joint Venture and will be developed at Toyota’s Bidadi plant.
