Big Boss Beats Mirzapur In Google Searches; But Money Heist Was #1 Show (Google Report)

The pandemic has given a boost to OTT platforms. The audience tried to escape the unavoidable isolation the pandemic brought with itself by consuming content more than ever. Therefore, besides searching for the pandemic, people also searched about the series that they can binge next. While most of the content watched was from Netflix, Amazon Prime does not lag far behind.

Here is a list of the top 10 most searched series in India in 2020.

1. Honey Heist

Also known as La Casa de Papel, this Spanish crime drama series was saved from cancellation after Netflix bought its rights. The series is based on a larger than life heist in the Royal mint of Spain planned by a mastermind named ‘Professor’ along with his teammates who are named after cities. While the first two seasons end with a successful heist the rescue of one of their arrested gang members surged into the subsequent season. Money Heist is one of the few series in which the viewers actually develop a soft corner for the bad guys.

2. Scam 1992

SonyLIV’s Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story is one of the highest-rated shows in the entire world with an IMDb rating of 9.8. The series is based on the real-life story of a stockbroker named Harshad Mehta, who was involved in India’s first major stock market scam in 1992. The enthralling storyline and stellar acting by Pratik Gandhi have made the series one of the biggest highlights of the Indian OTT sector.

3. Bigg Boss

Who doesn’t know about the concept of this long-standing show? Bigg Boss is the Indian adaptation of the Big Brother franchise in which popular celebrities and personalities are locked up in a house full of cameras for over 100 days. Bigg Boss is hosted by Bollywood superstar Salman Khan who comes on the show every weekend. Mirzapur 2 is the second installation of the famous Amazon Prime flagship series release in 2018. The story revolves around the illegal business of drugs and guns by Thripathi’s who is the local mafia. Naturally, the series consists of strong language, audacious violence, and sex scenes. Based on the crime thriller novel ‘The Story of My Assassins’, Paatal look loosely translates the real-life incidents of journalist Tarun Tejpal.  The story starts with an assassination attempt of a renowned journalist by 4 suspects and grows deep into the darker side of their personalities.
