Vodafone Idea (Vi) Raises Tariff
After spending crores on rebranding exercise, and losing millions of customers, Vi (Vodafone-Idea) has finally realised that they need to hike tariffs as well.
In a sudden, unexpected move, Vodafone Idea has increased their postpaid plans by Rs 50.
For two family plans: Rs 598 and Rs 749, Vodafone Idea has increased the tariff by Rs 50.
After the raise in tariff, Rs 548 plan will now cost Rs 649, and Rs 749 plan will now cost Rs 799.
Both of these are not individual plans, and part of the Red Plans, which includes data, voice and SMS services bundled into one.
While the Rs 649 plan has 80GB data, Rs 749 plan offers 120GB data.
There are total of 8 Red Plans from Vodafone, out of which, 2 plans have now become costlier by Rs 50.
Vodafone has a debt of Rs 18,000 crore, and raising tariff is one of the ways they have devised to pay this debt.
Will Airtel, Vodafone Also Raise Tariff?
Now, Vodafone had earlier given hints that in order to survive, they will need to raise tariffs.
But they haven’t provided any timeline, which is now clear.
On the other hand, Airtel Chairman and CEO, both have time and again hinted strongly that raising tariffs is the only feasible solution here.
It’s not clear whether Jio will also raise the tariff or not.
As we reported earlier, experts have suggested that Vodafone, Airtel and Jio will need to raise their tariff by atleast 25% to remain in existence, and to grow.
We will keep you updated, as more details come in.
