Sleeper Coaches Will Be Removed Only From These Trains; Low Fare AC Coaches Will Be Added
Since last few days, social media had been abuzz with news that Indian Railways will remove all sleeper coaches from all trains, and only use AC coaches for passengers.
Although this was a great news, but some passengers were worried that this will mean paying higher fares for the same journey.
And for some passengers, travelling in AC coaches is not feasible and they only prefer sleeper coaches.
After all the rumors, Indian Railways Board Chairman has come out, and put the facts and the truth.
No, sleeper coaches aren’t being removed or replaced from all the trains.
But yes, a new category of low-fare AC coaches are being added.
Here is the truth..
Indian Railways Board Chairman: No, Sleeper Coaches Are Not Being Removed
Refuting earlier media reports and rumors, Railway Board CEO and Chairman V.K. Yadav has announced that sleeper coaches won’t be removed or replaced from every train.
However, a new category of low-fare AC coaches will be added in few selected trains.
He said, “Sleeper class coaches will continue …”
Which Trains Will Have Low-fare AC Coaches
However, for trains which will be running at 130kmph speed on some selected routes, the sleeper coaches will be replaced with a new low-fare AC coaches.
This will be done to avoid discomfort to the passengers of sleeper coaches in such high-speed trains.
He said, “We are in the process of increasing the speeds of our trains to 130 km from 110 km, particularly along the golden diagonal and golden quadrilateral … when train speeds will be increased due to wind and dust there might be discomfort in sleeper coaches. Hence, we have designed a new AC 3-tier coach.”
How Much Will Be The Fare For Such AC Coaches
As reported earlier, sleeper coaches are being converted into a new category of low-fare AC coaches, and the fares will be sightly more than sleeper coaches, but less than AC 3 coach.
On the issue of fares, VK Yadav said, “The fare will be kept somewhere in between AC-3 tier and sleeper with the aim that more people can afford travelling in AC coaches,”
So, if you are love travelling in sleeper coaches, then there is nothing to worry about. Sleeper coaches will still be present.
However, for these long routes with trains running at 130kmph, there will be no sleeper coach, and only low-fare AC coaches.
We will keep you updated, as more details come in.
