Grid Failure In Mumbai Leads To Blackout

As per fresh reports coming in, the Kalwa-Padghe and Khargar ICTs have tripped, and multiple failures of transformers have been reported across the city.

The main reason is that the central grid of TATA Power at Kalwa has stopped working, which supplies power to Adani and BEST electricity distribution services.

As a result, south, central and north regions of Mumbai are facing a complete blackout since Monday morning.

The critical power grids suppling 360 MW of power in Mumbai and suburbs have been severely impacted, which as resulted in the power failure and blackout.

The areas which are severely impacted due to blackout are Juhu, Andheri, Mira Road, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Panvel.

The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport [BEST] spokesperson said: “Due to grid failure, the supply of power in the city is disrupted. The electric supply is interrupted due to TATAs incoming electric supply failure. Inconveniences is regretted,”

Local Trains Halted

As a direct result of this power grid failure, local trains across the major routes have halted.

Severely impacted is the Central Railways line, which runs between CSMT and Kalyan. Almost every local train in this route has been halted.

Reports have emerged that passengers are stranded at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus since morning.

Central Railway said, “Mumbai Suburban trains on CR held up due to grid failure. We will update ASAP. Kindly bear with us”.

At the same time, on the Western Railways as well, trains are stopped between Churchgate and Vasai.

Stock Exchange Operational

However, despite the power failure, Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange are operating.

Adani Electricity has informed that they are supplying 385MW to critical services through Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited (AEML) Dahanu.
