Google Partners With Visa!

Google Pay in partnership with Visa and banking partners has launched tokenization across its platform.

TR Ramachandran, Group Country Manager, Visa, India & South Asia said, “Visa recently crossed over 1 billion token credentials globally and with Google Pay live in India, we expect these numbers to rise significantly. We are excited to partner with Google to further accelerate digital payment innovations in times to come for the Indian market and beyond.” 

This feature has been launched on Axis and SBI Card. Other banks will soon follow be a part of this feature.  

Google Pay Android users can use their debit or credit card to make transactions through a secure digital token attached to their phone. This will ensure safe transactions without having to physically share credit or debit card details.

It doesn’t redirect to 3D secure sites and delivers an indigenous and smooth OTP experience.

Sajith Sivanandan, Business Head: Google Pay and NBU-India said, “We are hopeful that the tokenisation feature will further encourage users to transact securely and safely in the current times, and expand merchant transactions both online and offline.”

How Does This Work?

The NFC-capable Android devices can now make no-contact payments at over 2.5 million Visa merchant locations. The customers can now pay bills and recharge at more than 1.5 million Bharat QR enabled merchants.

To enable the tap-and-pay feature- 

  1. On enter your card details, you will receive an OTP.
  2. Enter the OTP you get from the bank in the app.

This will add your card to the Google Pay app. You can now make payments at NFC-enabled point of sale (POS) terminals and online merchants.
