The Covid-19 pandemic has had unprecedented results not only on the economy but also has instilled a fear of getting out, in most minds.
Social distancing has become the new normal and people are minimalizing their outdoor chores to avoid any undue happenings.
Clearly, staying locked in homes 24/7 is creating another set of physiological problems for many, which has resulted in many untimely events.
Speaking of which, Disney+Hotstar, the streaming company of the Star network, has announced that it will be releasing a number of Hindi movies on the platform, between July and October.
Disney+Hotstar Launches ‘Multiplex
With people not being able to migrate to multiplexes and movie halls, Diney+Hotstar has decided to bring new and entertaining film content to homes itself.
The online platform has taken direct to digital film releases one step forward.
Amidst the lockdown period, Hotstar has announced to launch a new section on its platform that will launch stream of Bollywood movies from July to October, under the name of ‘Multiplex’.
The company has stated that it has made this move to give the already home-stranded people a chance to look forward to new cheering ups.
How will this Move Affect Theatres?
As theatres remain shut across the country, Hindi films have chosen to go for a digital release.
This has led theatre chains like Inox and PVR to express their disappointment towards producers who circumvented theatrical exhibition and opt for online streaming release.
Even though Uday Shankar, the President of Disney India expresses his confidence on theatres and digital screens working and growing together at such times, theatre companies do not share the same viewpoint.
Shankar states that even while films released on television, theatres were growing. Digital premier will give new life to the film industry.
