WhatsApp Might Launch Animated Sticker!

WhatsApp has been reported to be working on animated stickers for a while now; however, details of the launch are still not known.

The instant messaging app started supporting stickers in 2019, but it is yet to offer animated stickers beyond testing. The app includes its own default sticker packs, and also allows users to download third-party ones as well.

Users will need to be on the beta versions mentioned above to be able to test the animated stickers feature. The tracker notes that this feature works on WhatsApp Business as well, and it is only rolling out for specific users on WhatsApp.

If you keep the app’s automatic updates on in the Play Store, it will go up to 194.9 and the stickers won’t animate anymore.

WABetaInfo who spotted this feature, details that the animated stickers feature can be divided into 3 parts.

With the latest beta update, few users may be able to view stickers, and this in turn activates the ability to send, star and forward animated stickers as well.

However, the other parts of the feature – being able to import animated stickers from third party stores and ability to download animated stickers from WhatsApp store – are still missing. So, until all 3 parts are rolled out to beta users, the feature is not complete.

Android Police reports that they are able to download default sticker packs from WhatsApp as well.

More About The WhatsApp Animated Stickers!

When the beta version from APK mirror is working,, stickers from animated packs are live in the conversation, though they only animate once and stop.

You need to scroll up or down to trigger them to play again. That might change when the feature is properly implemented, or it could be a conscious decision on the developer’s’ part to avoid too much movement on your screen when you’re trying to read some messages.

The stickers also show up as animated in the built-in WhatsApp picker, but they do loop indefinitely there.

Currently, 5 animated sticker packs are known: Playful Piyomaru, Rico’s Sweet Life, Moody Foodies, Chummy Chum Chums, and Bright Days.

All appear to be supplied by WhatsApp, but can’t be added or found until someone sends you a sticker from each pack. That will likely change when the feature is properly rolled out. No third-party packs that support the feature are found yet.

If you want to test these stickers out, you need to be on beta v2.20.194.7 of WhatsApp and receive a sticker from someone who’s enabled them.
