Samsung Electronics has announced that its newest application, Samsung Health Monitor app, has been cleared by the Ministry and can soon be used for monitoring blood pressure on humans.

Samsung’s Health Monitor App Obtains Clearance From South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety

As per reports revealed by Samsung Electronics, the Samsung Health Monitor app has obtained clearance by South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) as a Software as a Medical Device (SaMD). This makes the app a government cleared, over the counter and cuffless blood pressure monitoring app.

With this addition to the Galaxy Watch Active2, it becomes Samsung’s most advanced health and wellness capabilities until now. The Galaxy Watch Active2 comes with more sensitive and accurate Heart Rate monitoring sensors. It also helps users track their exercise, sleep, stress, etc. to help users improve their quality of life.

The app needs to be paired with advanced sensor technology on the  Galaxy Watch Active2,1 which will enable us to measure and track your blood pressure easily and more conveniently than ever.

Taejong Jay Yang, Corporate SVP and Head of Health Team, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics says, “The Samsung Health Monitor app has the potential to help millions of people around the world who are affected by high blood pressure. This is one of many examples of how Samsung is integrating its best-in-class hardware with the latest software innovations to innovate mobile experiences.”

How Does The Samsung Health Monitor App Work?

The Samsung Health Monitor app will be available on the Galaxy Watch Active2, which will then expand to the upcoming Galaxy Watch devices.

The app will track the user’s blood pressure, giving them insights about their health and enables them to make more informed and healthier decisions that will help improve their quality of life. High blood pressure often results in risking your health, especially that of the brain and kidney. It might also cause kidney and heart diseases, including stroke and coronary heart disease as well.

The Galaxy Watch Active2 device should be calibrated with a traditional cuff, after which you can tap the “Measure” button, and your blood pressure will be tracked at any time and at any place. The device measures blood pressure through pulse wave analysis which is tracked with the help of the Heart Rate Monitoring sensors.

This program will also analyze the relationship between the calibration value and the blood pressure change to determine the blood pressure. Also, the company recommends the users to calibrate their devices every four weeks.
