India Beats Slowdown This Diwali: 30 Tonnes Of Gold, 600 Mercedes-Benz Cars Sold In 24 Hrs

This Diwali season, Indians opened up their wallets, and bank accounts, and broke several records of retail shopping.

While 30 tonnes of Gold was sold during the 24 hours-phase of Dhanteras, Mercedes-Benz was able to sell 600 cars!

Here are the interesting details…

30 Tonnes of Gold Sold in 24 Hours

Indian Bullion and Jewellers Association has declared bumper sale of Gold during the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras this year.

Held two days before Diwali, Dhanteras signifies the purchasing trend of Indians, and gives a general idea of how consumers are spending this Diwali.

As per Surendra Mehta, who is the General Secretary of Indian Bullion and Jewellers Association, Indians bought 30 tonnes of Gold this Dhanteras.

Now, compared to last year, this is 25% less sale, but it was expected that only 15-20 tonnes of Gold will be sold this year on Dhanteras.

And the actual numbers clearly beat the estimates.

Mehta said, “We didn’t expect so much sales because the demand for gold in the domestic market was down due to high prices,”

The Gold prices on Friday, the day of Dhanteras, closed at Rs. 38,275 for 10 gm, compared to Rs. 31,702 per 10 gm last year.

This bumper sale of Gold clearly signifies that Indians are optimistic right now, and the slowdown has been beaten.

Here is another evidence of the same..

600 Mercedes-Benz Cars Sold On Dhanteras, Within 24 Hours

Luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz, whose cheapest car is priced at Rs 30 lakh in India, managed to sell 600 cars within 24 hours, on the day of Dhanteras.

Biggest car sales happened at Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Gujarat, Kolkata and Punjab.

In Delhi alone, 250 Mercedes-Benz were sold, which marks a new record for the company.

Not only this, but during Dussehra, Mercedes-Benz was able to sell 200 cars in Mumbai and Gujarat, which makes it 800 cars sold this festive season for Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes-Benz India’s Managing Director and CEO Martin Schwenk said, “The festive season has been satisfactory for us and we are glad to see an overwhelming response to our products from across markets.”

On the other hand, MG Hector, British automotive major has announced that they sold 700 SUVs on Dhanteras alone.

Out of this, 250 SUVs were delivered in Delhi-NCR alone.

Rs 13 lakh is the minimum price of a MG Hector SUV in India.
