L&T Infotech Slapped With Lawsuit By Americans For Favouring South Asians; 95% Employees Are From South Asia

Larsen & Turbo Infotech Ltd., India’s leading information technology provider has been charged with discrimination lawsuit in the US filed by former employees of the company. It has allegedly been partial towards South Asian techies, while hiring workers at its US branch.

L&T Discriminating Non South Asians While Hiring

Just some days back, we covered a story reciting Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) alleged to being biased towards staffing Indian workers over Americans in its US offices. The district court, however gave its verdict denying the allegation placed against TCS.

A similar line of news has surfaced again, this time enveloping Larsen & Toubro Infotech Ltd. It has been reported that two former employees of the company’s US branch filed a lawsuit against the company that it was discriminating against people who were not of South Asian descent, while hiring workers at its U.S. facilities.

Both of these complainants are white Americans and allege that the Mumbai-based company’s U.S. workforce constitutes of 7,500 employees, of which 95% fall under South Asian descent and mostly makes up visa holders from India.

The Complete Analysis

Larsen & Toubro is accused of submitting fraudulent letters with visa applications to maximize the number of South Asians it hires in the U.S.

The suit filed against the company describes how it would send a letter to the U.S. government, supposedly from a client, attesting to the need for certain employees to work in America. The letters however, were drafted and signed by Larsen & Toubro, as per the complaint.

After this lawsuit, Larsen & Turbo is properly being investigated by the U.S. Customs and Immigration Services. In one example cited in the complaint, Larsen & Toubro allegedly submitted fake invitation letters purportedly signed by client Apple Inc.

This complaint filed recently has added on to the several similar cases accusing India’s big IT firms of hiring bias in the U.S.

The case is Meyenhofer v. Larsen & Toubro Infotech Ltd., 19-cv-9349, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York (Manhattan).
