Oneplus 6T Is India’s #1 Premium Smartphone

As per fresh reports coming in from Counterpoint Research, premium smartphones are expanding at a rapid pace in India, and the growth is stunning.

The premium smartphone segment is expected to grow at 30% in India, which is one of the strongest growths in recent times, for any segment.

Based on sales numbers, Oneplus 6T is te #1 premium smartphone in India for the last quarter, and 30-40% of the people who are buying their 2nd or 3rd smartphone will most probably go for a premium smartphone.

At the same time, Samsung’s S10 series has proven to be a smash hit as well, and closely follows OnePlus 6T in terms of sale volumes.

Karn Chauhan, Research Analyst, Mobile Devices at Counterpoint said, “The success of Galaxy S10 series and OnePlus 6T highlights the trend of an expanding the premium segment in India,”

Apple Is Still Failing, But Still At #2

However, Apple’s iPhone sales are still low, and they are behind Samsung, Oneplus. iPhone’s pricing model is the main issue, which is stopping them from taking over the premium segment.

As per Counterpoint Research, once Apple’s production starts in India, they can reduce the price of iPhones by 20%, which can help them gain some traction. But still, Apple is among the top 3 premium brands in India, and along with Oneplus and Samsung, they have captured 90% of the market.

Huawei too has climbed the charts, and their Mate and P series have helped them to capture an impressive 10% market share.

Samsung Beats OnePlus

But the big news is that, Samsung has finally beaten OnePlus in the premium smartphone segment.

For the last three quarters, OnePlus has been the #1 smartphone brand in India, for the premium segment, but in the last quarter ending March 2019, Samsung is back to #1.

The incredible success of Samsung’s S10 series is the driving force behind making Samsung as #1 premium smartphone brand in India.

Counterpoint’s Research tells us that Google Pixel 3a, 3a XL’s launch has shaken up the market a bit, and in case Pixel’s sale volumes picks up, it can give some good fight to Samsung and OnePlus, along with Apple and Huawei.

However, all eyes are now set on OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro’s launch in India, which can shake up the market.
