Amazon is on its way to becoming the master of all trades as it has now launched some new facilities such as selling airline tickets and food orders too. The e-commerce behemoth is also looking to become a super app and for this, is planning to explore other dimensions in India.
Amazon has already made bill payments and recharging facilities available and now, it envisages implementing Tapzo to cover the rest of the verticals.
What is Amazon India’s strategy to reach this planned ambition? Read on to know the details!
Amazon India To Become a Super App
A Chinese chatting app, We-Chat is the pioneer of the concept of ‘super app’ and many have followed its path ever since. PhonePe, Ola, Paytm are some of these and now Amazon India will be added to the list soon.
Amazon India is planning to extend its verticals and open up a plethora of facilities for the customers of India. In this, Amazon intends to cover services from flight bookings to food delivery under its already wide diameter.
The e-commerce giant plans to start slow with selling airline tickets and bring about food delivery for starters. The bigger aim is to increase the footfall and online transactions on their platform, after which the plans of including other facilities such as booking cabs, hotel rooms, and others.
Sources close to the ongoing development said, “These are all third-party application integrations with market leaders in their verticals.”
Apparently, beta testing of flight bookings is currently in process with the travel portal Cleartrip. The other incorporations will be done with the help of third-party application integrations with vertical market leaders. Through such third-party API integrations, internet companies are able to communicate with each other easily and also exchange information.
Amazon and Tapzo?
Amazon’s intentions behind acquiring Tapzo are now pretty clear. In August 2018, Amazon acquired Tapzo, a Sequoia Capital-backed app that covers a wide variety of services such as abs, food, recharge, bill payment, news, cricket, horoscopes, and more.
In addition to Tapzo, Amazon has already partnered with some more third-party apps such as travel portals Uber, Ola, food delivery apps like Swiggy, Zomato, BookMyShow, and online bill payment service BillDesk by making Amazon Pay available to them. Now, Amazon plans to bring all these services under one roof.
Amazon has a gross user database of around 150 million customers, however, the number of customers that make use of the app is as less as 20-25 million. Being a super app will probably boost the app’s popularity and increase the overall usage of the app by customers.
