PUBG Can Be Banned In India; Gujarat Becomes 1st State To Officially Ban PUBG

While there were rumours about PUBG, the videogame being banned in Maharashtra, news has been confirmed that the game has been banned from primary schools in the state of Gujarat, making it officially the first state to ban the videogame in India.

The reason stated behind this ban is the harmful effects that this game might have on young children’s minds.

PUBG: Dark Cloud or A Silver Lining?

PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) is an online multiplayer videogame whose popularity has spread like wildfire amongst the youth of today. Google India had also declared PUBG as the best game of 2018 as the game is the most loved action game and has been downloaded the most.

While there are many tournaments being held to promote the game, the negative effects it might have on youngsters’ brains is something to chew over. The game has been downloaded a few million times, and people are getting addicted to it, young and old too! The addiction is getting quite out of hand and has led to drastic results which must be attended to rather quickly.

A fitness trainer from Jammu and Kashmir, who recently lost his mental balance and started harming himself is a fine example that highlights that the game’s popularity has reached levels far beyond normalcy. Another thing to ponder – he was the sixth to undergo such a traumatic experience.

An Official Notice Against PUBG

Gujarat state’s primary education department has issued a circular that orders primary schools to implement a ban on PUBG. District Primary Education Officers have been ordered to ensure that necessary steps have been taken to ban the game completely.

Reports say that this move was suggested to the primary education department by Gujarat State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Children are getting addicted to PUBG and it is “adversely affecting their studies.”

This ban has been ordered keeping in mind the upcoming board examinations that will commence from next month.

PUBG Banned Throughout India

A ban on the game across the country has been recommended by The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). The NCPCR has sent a letter to all the states of India that suggests them to ban the game.

Jagruti Pandya, who is the chairperson of the Gujarat child rights body, said, “All the states are required to implement it. Looking at the negative effects of the game, we had recently sent a letter to the state government recommending a ban on the game.”
