It is high time someone took a step ahead to put a limit on the slow but constant rise in addiction to cell phones and Vitaminwater, a US based company who has pioneered the revolution against cell phones.
Vitaminwater, a Coca-Cola company, has offered an extravagant prize amount of $100,000 (around Rs. 72 lakh) to those who win their challenge of not using their smartphones for an entire year.
To no one’s surprise, smartphones have quickly become the new generation’s addiction. Cell phones have substituted every other way of man’s pastime, be it books, games – anything.
The addiction is not limited to only teens, the grownups, adults and elderly slowly seem to be taken by the age of technology.
$100,000, But No Smartphone?
Vitaminwater is a US-based company who has announced a giant prize money of $100,000 for anyone who gives up their cellphone for one whole year.

To enter the contest, all you have to do is share a post on Twitter or Instagram in which you are to explain the reason you have opted for a break from cell phones and what you would do in the time that is you usually spend on a cell phone. Also, include the hashtags #NoPhoneforaYear and #contest
During this contest, the contestant can use a desktop computer, a laptop or even voice-activated devices like Google Home, but tablets and smartphones are forbidden. You can use a feature phone with the basic facilities but no internet, only calling facilities.
Criteria For Winning
Use #nophoneforayear and #contest on Twitter and Instagram, and let them know what you will do in these 12 months without a smartphone.
Vitaminwater will decide the winner on the basis of these points: creativity and originality, humor and how best it fits the brand tonality and persona. Also, the winner will have to face a lie-detector test at the end of the duration of the contest.
Another added bonus is if you last for six months, the company offers $10,000 (about Rs. 7.2 lakh) as a prize amount to those contestants too.
Update: This contest is only for US Citizens, who are 18 years or older.
Cell phone Addiction and Us
While previously, Rajnikanth and Akshay Kumar’s 2.0 has pointed out the addiction to cell phones and Vitaminwater seems to be following suit. Ever since the evolution of smartphones in 2007 has started, cell phones have created a huge impact on our lives and will continue to do so.
A study in 2017 showed that cell phone addiction takes a heavy toll on our mental health as well, and also results in an increased heart rate and blood pressure. Even if you can’t win the prize money, this innovative challenge is a great idea if you believe a digital detoxification is necessary once in a while.
