According to the previous leaks about Reliance Jio’s next cheapest feature phone, 4G VoLTE enabled, the phone will be priced at Rs. 500 making it the best bargain in its segment. The phone is tipped to be launched in August this year. The announcement of this phone will most probably be made in RIL AGM on July 21st!

As the launch date comes closer, the leaks are getting more realistic. According to a full leak by TechPP, the feature phone will be branded as LYF phone. It will have a typical candy-bar design, with a display on the top side and a T9 numeric keypad at the bottom along with a four-way navigation key in the middle.

Take a look at the specifications below –

  • 2.4-inch colour display
  • 4G VoLTE support with complete suite of Jio-apps pre-installed
  • Qualcomm or Spreadtrum-based processor chips
  • 512MB RAM, 4GB internal memory expandable to 128GB using microSD cards
  • 2MP rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera
  • Dual-sim device with one nano-sim
  • Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS support built-in
  • Built-in voice assistant for Indian languages
  • Dedicated torchlight button
  • 2,000 mAh battery

The phone in the leaks was running KAI OS, which is a modified Firefox OS. This will allow the company to also install other applications like Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp on this feature phone.

I think the best feature of the smartphone is its battery. It has a massive 2,000mAh battery which has been very smartly fitted in the smartphone because the users will be watching videos, surfing the web and using battery-intensive apps all the time. Not many feature phones have such huge backups.

The leaks also point to a built-in voice assistant for Indian languages, which apparently can answer questions for you as well, just like Google Assistant and Siri. However, we can take this with a pinch of salt because firstly, no LYF smartphone has such a voice assistant and secondly, this one might not work as well as you’d expect it to.

Since this phone will work only with 4G VoLTE Reliance Jio sim, it is will beneficial for people who are looking for a cheapest feature phone with internet service. However, it is not clear whether there will be two versions of the phone – one with Spreadtrum chip and one with Qualcomm chip. Keep a look out for more leaks as the launch date is only a month away.
