Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Announced – Uses 14nm FinFET Process, Enhanced Dual-Camera Support & Faster LTE

Snapdragon 450 Features

The existing generation of Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 series processor is 435, and it was a pretty decent processor. With dual ISP and Qualcomm Adreno 505 GPU integration, the Snapdragon 435 supports rich, high-quality camera images and stunning graphics with optimum speed and power efficiency.

Now, the company has released the next version in the 400 series. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 has been announced for mid-range smartphones and tablets. Snapdragon 450 is the first in its tier to use 14nm FinFET process and is designed to deliver significant improvements in battery life, graphics and compute performance, imaging and LTE connectivity over its predecessor, the Snapdragon 435 Mobile Platform.

Snapdragon 435 will be mostly used for mid-range smartphones and tablets, like Xiaomi Redmi 4, Huawei Honor 6C and Oppo A57.

Higher performing octa-core ARM Cortex A53 CPU results in 25 percent increase in computing performance compared to its predecessor. Additionally, the integrated Qualcomm Adreno 506 GPU delivers a 25 percent increase in graphics performance over the Snapdragon 435

– The battery usage has also been improved. Now the smartphone or the tablet will provide four more hours of usage time, along with a 30% reduction in power while gaming. The Snapdragon 450 also comes with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support, which can charge a typical smartphone from zero to 80 percent in about 35 minutes.

– On the camera side, Snapdragon 450 is the first to add real-time Bokeh effects, and the ability to host dual camera setup of 13MP + 13MP configuration, or a single camera at 21MP. The Snapdragon 450 also includes support for 1920×1200 full HD displays, as well as the Qualcomm Hexagon DSP, which enables multimedia, camera and sensor processing at greater performance and lower power than the previous generation.

– The chipset also now boasts of faster LTE network on smartphones and faster data transfer with the support for USB 3.0

Snapdragon 450 will be commercially available as samples to consumers from Q3 2017 and will be coming to your favourite smartphones by the last quarter of this year. This way, a lot of models that get refreshed in the first quarter of every year will be at advantage.

With the companies around the globe aiming to get into the budget smartphone segment, the launch of this chipset has been timed extremely well. Not only can manufacturers leverage Snapdragon 450, but also bring some of the high-end features to cheaper smartphones.
