Times Internet’s GoCricket.com Goes Live; Will Stream Pepsi IPL Matches

Times Internet has launched a new cricket portal – GoCricket.com –  that will offer original, editorial cricket content that is deeply integrated video features. The new platform will offer live scores, upcoming fixtures, results, exclusive photos & videos among other cricket related content.

GoCricket.com will also be the portal where upcoming Pepsi Indian Premiere League matches will be streamed live. For past few years Times Internet have had the online streaming rights for IPL and this will be their last year before the agreement with BCCI expires.

Last year Times Internet had used their Boxtv platform to stream IPL matches, but this year around they want create a buzz for GoCricket by offering live streaming of IPL matches.

As far as the GoCricket platform goes, it looks like Times Internet wants to create comprehensive platform for everything cricket in India. They are in direct competition with Cricinfo, hugely popular platform with Indians for cricket.

GoCricket features latest news, live scorecards, upcoming fixtures, team pages, player profiles, exclusive photos and videos, cricket polls and more. They have also roped in former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly to be on their Editorial team. Ganguly said in regards to the association, “I am extremely happy to be associated with gocricket.com and be involved as a guest editor. We will bring cricket news to you like never before. Stay  with us”.

Along with the launch of their web platform, GoCricket is also available on iPhone, Android, iPad, and WAP, readily enabled for featured phones and low bandwidth users as well.

It is clear that Times Internet wants to create a platform to tap millions of cricket loving fans in India, and wants to compete with Cricinfo who currently have a near monopoly as only cricket information source.

Interestingly, Times Internet have also licensed live streaming of IPL matches to STAR, who will also be streaming those matches live on their website StarSports.com.
