Redmi Y2 Launched In India

Xiaomi entered the selfie-centric smartphone segment in the country with its Y series. After Redmi Y1, the company has now launched its successor Redmi Y2, which an Indianized version of recently-launched Redmi S2 in China.

From rear dual cameras to a widescreen 18:9 display to the latest Android Oreo, the new Redmi Y2 is a massive upgrade over its predecessor. The base variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage will cost Rs 9,999 and the top variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage will cost Rs 11,999.

The new Xiaomi Redmi Y2 is an Amazon India exclusive product and will be available from June 12. The smartphone will be available with a cashback of Rs 1,800 with 250GB additional data for Airtel users. ICICI cardholders will also get an exclusive Rs 500 cashback with Redmi Y2 purchase.

With the launch of Redmi Y2, it will go up against the newly launched budget stalwarts Honor 7A and the Oppo branded Realme 1.

Design

All of the smartphones come with a unibody build and a sturdy finish on the out. The form factors on each of the phones are good. The Realme 1 though has an added advantage with 100,000 drop tests done before being shipped.

The Honor 7A has a 5.7-inch HD+ IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 1440 × 720 pixels and Redmi Y2 will come with a 5.99-inch HD+ 18:9 widescreen display at 1440 × 720 pixels. Realme 1 sports a 6-inch full HD+ 18:9 widescreen display with a screen resolution of 2160 × 1080 pixels.

Hardware

The Honor 7A comes with Snapdragon 430 with 3GB of RAM, whereas Redmi Y2 features an octa-core Snapdragon 625 chipset coupled with 3GB or 4GB of RAM. Realme 1 sports an octa-core MediaTek Helio P60 coupled with 3GB, 4GB or 6GB of RAM.

Storage

All the three smartphones have 32GB internal storage with 3GB RAM version. Whereas there will be a 64GB version of Redmi Y2 with 4GB of RAM and Realme 1 has two other variants with 4GB RAM with 64GB storage and 6GB RAM with 128GB storage.

Honor 7A runs EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo and Realme 1 has the latest Android 8.1 Oreo with ColorOS 5.0 on top. On the other hand, Redmi Y2 will come with MIUI 9.5  based on Android 8.0 Oreo.

Rear Camera

Honor 7A will come with a primary 13-megapixel CMOS sensor coupled with a 2-megapixel secondary sensor backed by AI-based features for scene detection, colour correction and bokeh mode. Realme 1 comes with an AI-powered 13-megapixel rear camera capable of detecting scenes and adding depth effects. Redmi Y2 will come with dual rear cameras of 12MP + 5MP with large 1.25-micron pixels to enhance low-light photography with better colours.

Front Camera

Redmi Y2 will come with a 16MP AI-powered support to improve low-light pictures, auto HDR, AI beauty and Portrait mode. Honor 7A sports an 8-megapixel front shooter and Realme 1 also comes with an 8-megapixel AI-powered front camera.

Of the 3GB/32GB variants of all the three smartphones, Honor 7A costs Rs 8,999, Realme 1 is priced at 8,990 and Redmi Y2 will cost Rs 9,999. The higher 4GB variant of Redmi Y2 will cost Rs 11,999.

Availability

The Honor 7A is available on Flipkart and Hihonor website via weekly flash sales and Realme 1 are Amazon exclusive and will be available via weekly flash sales only. The Redmi Y2 will go on sale from June 12 via Amazon India, Mi.com, Mi Home stores and Mi Preferred Stores.
