Google Pixel Will Be Made In India! Google Wants To Manufacture 1 Million Pixel Phones In India
Google is next in line to follow in Apple’s footsteps – the company is planning to shift its assembly plant to India from China.
Reports have confirmed that lockdowns in China have had a major impact on the speed of manufacturing of devices.
Google To Shift Assembly Plants To India From China
According to a company source, Google has asked Indian manufacturers to submit bids for the assembly of 500,000 to 1 million units of its Pixel smartphones.
Additionally, the number of devices Google wants to assemble in India will account for 10 to 20% of the Pixel’s estimated total annual production, despite the fact that the smartphone has been manufactured almost entirely in China in recent years.
According to the report, the company is considering alternatives after Beijing’s clashes with Washington and nationwide lockdowns disrupted production.
As contract manufacturers try to diversify production away from China, India and other countries such as Mexico and Vietnam are becoming increasingly important.
Previously, the US considered restricting shipments of American chipmaking equipment to Chinese memory chip makers in an effort to halt China’s semiconductor sector advances and protect US companies.
If US President Joe Biden’s administration goes ahead with the move, South Korean memory chip behemoths Samsung Electronics Co Ltd and SK Hynix Inc, both of which have large factories in the country, could suffer.
Apple And Tata In Talks?
Recently, we reported that in a bid to manufacture an iPhone in India, the Indian salt-to-software conglomerate Tata Group has reportedly been in talks with a Taiwanese supplier to the US tech giant Apple.
Apple supplier Foxconn is reportedly increasing iPhone production capacity by giving it over to an existing factory in India. With this move, Apple intends to diversify its supply chain beyond China.
Foxconn, the world’s biggest electronics contract manufacturer, will soon begin phone production in a new building at an existing factory near Chennai. This comes after the company’s recent hiring spree in the country.
