If you know what we are talking about, the said CEO in picture is Shantanu Deshpande of the premium personal care and grooming solutions brand Bombay Shaving Company.

In a recent tweet, Deshpande suggested young employees to not give so much priority to work-life balance and throw themselves into their work for at least the next 4-5 years.

He also asked such young employees to put in 18 hour work days.

He said, “When you are 22 and new in your job, throw yourself into it. Eat well and stay fit, but put in the 18 hour days for at least 4-5 years. I see a LOT of youngsters who watch random content all over and convince themselves that ‘work life balance, spending time with family, rejuvenation bla bla’ is important. It is, but not that early.”

“Don’t do random rona-dhona. Take it on the chin and be relentless. You will be way better for it,” the Bombay Shaving Company’s CEO added.

Users immediately took to social media, slamming Deshpande for his comments, stating that it promotes a ‘toxic work culture’.

A user replied to this tweet by saying, “”At a time when mass layoffs by Indian startups has become a norm, Shantanu Deshpande, Founder CEO of @BombayShavingCo is not only vouching for a toxic work culture, but also justifying himself even after people have called out his opinion on LinkedIn. What do you think about it?”

According to a LinkedIn Workforce Confidence Index released in 2020, two out of five working professionals in India experience anxiety and stress.

One of such Twitter users highlighted that Deshpande, in his tweet, did not give any mention of employees being paid extra on asked to work longer hours.
