How it works

Passengers have to download the Digi Yatra app that will automate their entry and verification at all touchpoints, i.e. airport entry, security check and boarding gate.

The app will use its facial recognition feature to establish a traveller’s identity, which will be linked to the boarding pass.

The beta version of the app is available for Android users and will be launched for the iOS platform in a few weeks.

Data safety

Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has said that there should be no worries regarding sharing passenger data since “it is secure and will be deleted after 24 hours following their travel.”

Currently, opting for this feature is voluntary.

Those who do opt for it will have to link Aadhar details, take a selfie and add Covid-19 vaccination information to the app.

In Delhi

Along with Bengaluru, the Digi Yatra facility has also been launched at Delhi’s T3 airport.

A beta version has been launched for domestic passengers at Delhi airport’s T3 where AirAsia India, Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet and Vistara operate.

Benefits

CEO of Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), said that facial recognition will spare passengers the hassle of identity checks at multiple points.

It will also promote paperless travel along with enhancing safety at the airport.
