Notice Issued To Top 4-5 Electric Vehicle Manufacturers For Battery Explosions

Electric vehicle manufacturers have been issued notices by the Consumer protection regulator, CCPA. 

For those unaware, there have been a lot of incidents of electric bikes and cars that are catching fire in India. 

Notices Issued To Electric Vehicle Manufacturers

The CCPA announced recently that it has issued notices to 4-5 Electric Vehicle (EV) manufacturers after receiving consumer complaints about a series of battery explosions in EVs.

Nidhi Khare, Chief Commissioner of the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), stated that the hearing on this matter will begin soon.

As per Khare, “We have issued notices to 4-5 companies. We asked them to provide reasons for series of fire incidents in EVs and why the regulator should not take action against them.” 

She also stated that the loss of life caused by EV fires has been reported, raising concerns. Loss of life has been reported as a result of EV fire incidents, raising the question of whether the product sold passed the standard testing manuals, she said.

According to her, the CCPA received several complaints and took action on its own. The CCPA chief also stated that the CCPA has requested that the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which was tasked by the Union road transport and highways ministry with investigating EV fire incidents, submit its report.

She stated that the other relevant ministries are also looking into this matter.

Electric Two Wheelers Of Ola, Okinawa Catching Fire

As we all know, the owners of electrically powered two-wheelers are not happy with their experiences, what with the bikes catching fire. In recent weeks, scooters from Ola Electric, Pure EV, Okinawa Scooters, and Jitendra Electric Vehicles have been caught on fire. 

An Ola S1 pro electric scooter was on fire in Lohegaon, Pune.

At the beginning of April, a dealership in Balaghat near Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh belonging to Ghaziabad based e-Ashwa Automotive caught fire. The dealership sells a range of electric scooters and rickshaws.

40 electric scooters from Jitendra Electric Vehicles caught fire on April 11 after being loaded in a transport container in Nashik.

On March 28, the government pulled up an expert team to investigate the incidents. 

On April 7, it summoned the technical teams of Ola Electric and Okinawa Scooter for an explanation. It was then that Ola Electric Founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal said that the company may recall a few batches of electric scooters depending on the recommendations from probing agencies.
