Benly in Bengaluru

It was spotted testing last year with a test registration number and now has been spotted with a green license plate.

The scooter is registered in Karnataka’s Jayanagar which happens to be the same location of Honda’s new initiative in India – Honda Power Pack Energy India.

As part of this, Honda is testing the battery packs in the Benly e.

Battery swapping

The imported scooter is powered by Honda Mobile Power Pack lithium-ion batteries.

The company has also partnered with Hindustan Petrol Corporation Limited and Bengaluru Metro to set up battery swapping stations.

The swapping stations will work to offer battery packs to electric two and three-wheeler vehicles.

This implies that Honda’s EV products for India will get swappable battery tech.

Meant for businesses

However, the Benly e is not meant for private users since it is a commercial electric scooter.

It is built for delivery businesses which require an EV for cost-effective transportation.

It is accordingly designed to carry large cargo safely and also offers swappable battery technology that ensures almost zero downtime.

Features

The scooter has a load capacity of 60 kg.

A basket can be attached at the front apron.

Other features include an LED light, a charging socket, and a digital instrument cluster.

Honda claims the Benly e can climb hills up to a 12-degree incline with cargo.

There is a reverse assist feature as well.

Power

The base variant of the scooter is powered by a 2.8 kW electric motor while the more powerful versions get the 4.2 kW electric motor.

All the variants have two swappable 48V batteries.
