Responsibilities

It will construct the terminal, runway, airside infrastructure, roads, utilities, landside facilities and other ancillary buildings at the airport.

Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL),a 100 percent subsidiary of Swiss developer Zurich Airport International AG and a Special Purpose Vehicle to develop Noida International Airport shared the news.

In 2019, Zurich Airport International AG had won the bid.

The Uttar Pradesh government signed the concession agreement with Yamuna International Airport Private Limited on October 7, 2020, to commence the development.

Futuristic Features

Noida International Airport will be India’s largest airport once constructed fully.

The greenfield facility, spread in 1,334 hectares, will have a single-runway operation in the first phase with a capacity to handle 12-million passengers per annum at an investment of ? 5,700 crore.

As operations expand, this capacity can be increased to handle 30 million passengers.

The passenger terminal will comprise parameters such as short and efficient passenger flows, digital services, and minimal environmental impact- it will be the country’s first net-zero emissions airport.

It will also be a digital airport, enabling contactless travel and personalized services for families, senior citizens, and business travelers.

It is expected to be functional by 2024, as per the developer.

Employment Generation Opportunities

The airport construction will also “bolster employment generation and economic growth in the state as well as the country,” said Christoph Schnellmann, Chief Executive Officer, YIAPL.

Now that the Engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract has been assigned to Tata Projects, the first phase of the airport is on track to be delivered within three years of the commencement of the concession period.

With this new phase the project will “witness a rapid increase in the pace of construction activities on site,” said Schnellmann
