Different Uses

This is the first time that Meta is introducing the feature for Indian users on Facebook and Messenger, and for the first time across the world for Instagram users.

On Instagram they can be used across Instagram stories and on direct messages but on Facebook it works only as a profile image.

The company has also added more customisation options for its messenger and Facebook profiles including assistive devices for people with disabilities.

Initiative For Metaverse

The 3D avatars are part of Meta’s vision of the metaverse, in particular metas virtual reality platform, Horizon Worlds.

An update to the same has been released on Facebook and its messenger app in India, which allow users to create their own virtual self.

The new features now allow them to change their appearance with the help of facial shapes and clothes styles.

They can also use the 3D avatars to post photos and stickers.

Self-Expression

Meta India director and head of partnerships, Manish Chopra remarked that the company offered “more than one quintillion” different combinations when it launched the updated avatars last year.

The introduction of virtual 3D avatars and its range of customizability choices is supposed to acknowledge the diversity of the real world and to let everyone express themselves in their own unique ways.

He further added, “When you create your avatar you can choose the right facial features, body types, clothing styles, and more to create your virtual self.”

Other Welcome Improvements

It will continue to add more options to give people even more ways to express themselves.

People with disabilities are especially benefited from the update which now adds cochlear implants and over-the-ear hearing aids in different colours to the avatars.

There are wheelchairs that are in stickers on Facebook, in Messenger chats, and in DMs on Instagram.

The avatar’s customisations have also been improved so as to make subtle adjustments to skin shaders and facial features and there’s more to come later this year.
