First Ever Indigenously Developed Electric Bus of India: EKA E9

The EKA E9 was showcased to the minister during a meeting with  EKA and Pinnacle Industries Ltd. by the latter’s Chairman Sudhir Mehta. He pitched the car as “clean, efficient, and [a] profitable public transport”, especially for markets like India as they are beginning to adopt cleaner energy and electric vehicles.

As per reports, the bus produces zero emissions.

The EKA E9 is the company’s first electric-battery bus. Also, it comes with a monocoque stainless steel chassis and has a complete composite structure.

As per reports, the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of the EKA E9 is considerably lower as compared to that of the current generation of buses that are powered by combustion engines (ICE).

The bus also has both front and rear air suspension and is powered by an electric motor which delivers maximum energy of 200 KW. Other specifications include a 2500 Nm torque and a “regenerative braking system.”

The floor of the bus is at a height of 650 mm, which is quite low and is therefore easily accessible to all those who will use it, including those with disabilities and the aged. There will also be a wheelchair ramp to help people with disabilities.

The capacity of the bus is quite impressive, it can carry 31 passengers in one go.
