Big Bazaar Customers Not Able To Use Vouchers After Reliance Takes Control: What Happens To The Vouchers?

A lot of customers of retail giant Big Bazaar have coupons worth large sizes, valid until the end of the year. Such customers are now in a fix, as most outlets of Future Retail’s Big Bazaar were taken over by the leading retail company Reliance Retail.

Sources have informed that as all accounts of Future Retail have currently been frozen, due to its inability to pay its debts, the customers’ money against the coupons issued can also not be refunded, at least at the moment.

Problems Faced by Coupon Holders of Big Bazaar

As Reliance Retail has taken over most of the outlets of Future Retail’s Big Bazaar, customers of the latter holding valid coupons are now wondering what can be done to either claim the money or get their refunds against it.

One such person has informed the newspaper daily TOI, of having coupons worth Rs 6,000, valid until Dec. He said, “We have Big Bazaar vouchers worth Rs 6,000 whose validity is till December 2023 but these cannot be used now after the stores went to Reliance.”

Other such customers have complained that on getting in touch with the customer support, they are being provided with a toll free number and e-mail id, which are not operational.

“When I enquired about this, a customer service representative said they receive several such mails every day and many files are pending. They won’t be able to take any action unless they receive orders”, said another such customer with coupons worth Rs 4,000 to the newspaper daily.

‘Big Bazaar should have figured out something for such customers who have vouchers’, noted the distressed customers.

According to an industry executive, as about 30 stores continue to remain under Future Retail, they must be used to redeem the vouchers.

“Vouchers were bought mainly by companies who distributed them among their employees. During its peak, the voucher business used to generate around Rs 200 crore for the retailer,” added this source.
