Savills Executive Nomad Index

The Savills Executive Nomad Index has ranked 15 destinations for long-term remote workers. All these places have a digital nomad visa programme, or equivalent. In the case of the US and European countries, they are already part of a large economic system that enables free movement of people for living or work. The places that made it on the Savills list offer favourable climatic conditions all year-round, a high quality of life and have established prime residential markets.

The modern executive nomad can be called a distant cousin of the freelance creative working from a café in Hawaii or Costa Rica – owns a villa in the Algarve or a condo in Bali, attends Zoom calls from an airy home office, and gets on a flight back to London, New York, or Geneva for the quarterly board meeting.

Given that travel connections are good and high-speed internet is always available, employees and their families are motivated to move to a place that has a greater emphasis on health, wellness and overall lifestyle.

Lisbon

Lisbon tops the ranking because of  the high quality of life that Portugal offers.  Low pollution and a great climate are also definite advantages. Lisbon also offers strong air connectivity as it has a well-connected international airport. Another Portuguese location, the Algarve, came in fourth place, as it offers many of the same benefits.

Miami

In second place is Miami. With a warm climate and beaches, it is no wonder that Miami has grown in appeal as a remote working location in the US. Miami offers all the big-city benefits, such as very good air connectivity, good digital infrastructure, a strong prime rental market, while still offering residents a good quality of life.

Dubai

Dubai came in third place. It is a topper in the Savills index because of the air connectivity, reaching over 100 countries with more than 240 destinations.

Barbados

Barbados, which has the fastest internet in the Caribbean, ranked fifth, because of its appealing climate and good air connectivity.

Barcelona

In sixth place there is Barcelona.  It offers benefits from fast internet and strong connectivity through air travel and trains.

As the workplace has evolved and changed to a new, more flexible model, executive nomads are turning what were previously seen as holiday-home locations into year-round home locations.  Some locations in the Caribbean and Mediterranean, as well as cities such as Lisbon, Miami and Dubai offer them connectivity, favourable climates and a high quality of life and are preferred for this reason.
