New Maruti Wagon R Specs Leaked: 12 Safety Features, Automatic Engine & More

It is scheduled to arrive in showrooms in late March 2022.

Hot off the launch of the 2022 Baleno, Maruti Suzuki is readying itself for the launch of the 2022 WagonR.

The facelift version of the familiar hatchback gets upgrades in terms of looks, performance, comfort and safety going by leaked brochures.

Appearance

It gets a floating roof design and new alloy wheels accompanied by dual tone colour schemes of Gallant Red with black roof and ORVMs and Magma Grey with black roof and ORVMs.

The dimensions remain the same. 

The interior gets a more spacious cabin and boot along with dual tone Grey Melange fabric.

Interior

Other features inside include:

  • 17.78 cm SmartPlay Studio system with smartphone navigation
  • Premium sound system with 4 speakers
  • Steering mounted controls 
  • Auto gear shift technology

Safety 

The carmaker has pulled out all the stops when it comes to safety.

The car boasts a list of over a dozen features including:

  • Hill Hold Control
  • Seat Belt Pretensioner and Force limiter
  • Speed sensitive auto door lock
  • Child proof rear door lock
  • Dual Airbag from base variant
  • Seat Belt reminder with buzzer
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Security Alarm
  • ABS with EBD
  • Speed Alert system
  • Central locking 
  • Front fog lamps

Engine And Transmission

The facelift version will likely run on the 68bhp, 1.0L K10B petrol and 90bhp, 1.2L K12M petrol powertrains.

The latter will replace the 83bhp, 1.2L K12M gasoline motor.

Rumors also say that the 1.2L Wagon R might come with a CNG option at a later stage.

The engines get mated to 5 speed manual and 5 speed AMT gearbox

The base LXI variant will have the Idle Start Stop function which will help increase the fuel economy

The brochure further reveals that the WagonR will offer a fuel efficiency of 25.19 kilometres to a litre.

Launch, Pricing

Upon its arrival, it will take on the likes of Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago in the hatchback segment.

A premium on the outgoing model’s price can be expected given the enhanced features and improved safety.

The present model is priced between Rs 5.18 lakh and Rs 6.58 lakh, so expect to pay Rs 10,000-15,000 extra.
