Realme has been an expert at sales since the very beginning. The brand’s focus on value and its ability to undercut Xiaomi in the area of budget has allowed it to quickly become big in India, and it used this development as a starting point to build itself into a global empire that now stretches to over 30 countries.

Realme is the fastest growing brand

Realme has become the fastest brand to hit the 100 million sales milestone last year, and a surge in sales in the fourth quarter of 2021 has allowed the brand to overtake Samsung and become the second-largest phone brand in India. The latest figures from Counterpoint show that Realme has picked up a 17% market share in India in the fourth quarter of 2021, closely edging out Samsung at 16%.

Xiaomi is still the dominant brand with 24% market share, and it doesn’t look like this will change anytime soon. Xiaomi had overtaken Samsung to become India’s leading phone manufacturer about four years ago, and it hasn’t moved from that place yet. However, if there’s any brand that can challenge Xiaomi for the top place, it has to be Realme. After all, both brands are intensely competing in the same category, and in recent years Realme made tangible gains on the software front.

The brand’s objectives

Realme India’s CEO Madhav Sheth has been really clear about what the brand’s objectives in the year 2022:

He said that the company’s growth over the past three years is a demonstration of the love that the users have for the brand. Ever since realme has come into existence, all their efforts have been put into bringing leap-forward technologies to their users and providing them with the best experiences.

He also said, “From here, we are only looking at more growth and have our goals set for 2022. We want to be India’s no. 1 smartphone brand this year, and I believe that the path we are on is the correct one”.

Counterpoint has noted that Realme witnessed a year-on-year sales increase of 20 percent which is larger than any brand in the fourth quarter of 2021. Obviously, a majority of Realme’s sales came from the ‘budget segment’ with phones like their new C series and Narzo launches, but the brand is also seeing momentum in the mid-range and high-end phone categories with their GT series. The GT Master Edition is a fantastic overall device, and it can go up against the best Android phones in its category.
