New Year Parties Banned In Mumbai

The City of Mumbai has completely banned all forms of New Year parties in the city, and this includes both indoor and outdoor gatherings, parties. 

Chaitanya S, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Greater Mumbai issued a circular which states, “In light of the surge in COVID-19 cases and the emergence of the new Coronavirus variant, ‘Omicron’ in view to prevent danger to human life, health and to curtail transmission of the virus, I hereby prohibit any New Year Celebration, program, function, gathering, party, or activity happening in closed or public spaces including restaurants, hotels, bars, banquet halls, resorts, clubs or rooftops, etc,”

What’s The Reason?

In the last 24 hours or so, Mumbai has reported a record rise in new Covid-19 cases, out of which a big number is of the new Omicron variant.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)  reported a record 2510 new cases of Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, up from 1377 reported a day earlier.

In view of this sudden surge in new cases, Govt has banned all new year parties, gatherings till January 7th, as Section 144 of IPC has been imposed.
