Upcoming Maruti SUVs will have 5 Star NCAP Safety ratings

As the SUV segment is growing at a fast rate in the country, it’s imperative for Maruti to come up with fully loaded features. To fulfill this vision, Maruti is coming up with SUVs that are codenamed YFG (next-gen S-Cross which will compete with Creta / Seltos) and YTB (Baleno-based sub-4 meter crossover which will compete with Sonet, Venue).

According to reports, these new petrol-electric hybrid cars will be part of Maruti’s ‘Mission Green Million’ initiative. With this initiative, the company is targeting to sell at least one million green vehicles over the next couple of years. This is in accordance with a mission to promote sustainable mobility. Maruti is also working on getting 5 star NCAP safety rating for their new cars.

This car is expected to utilize Daihatsu’s New Global Architecture (DNGA). DNGA is essentially an affordable version of Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). This platform can be used to build cars that are affordable, offer high quality, and can support advanced technologies.

Maruti YTB which will be based on Baleno will be a sub-4 meter coupe-SUV crossover. It will compete with Tata Nexon and Nissan Magnite. The car is expected to be based on the 5th generation Heartect platform. It will be positioned as an affordable version of Brezza.

Apart from these new SUVs, the company is also in the process of updating its existing cars. Baleno, Alto, Swift, Dzire, etc are likely to get new gen variants next year. Along with SUVs, Maruti is aiming to improve the safety rating of their small cars and hatchbacks as well.
