Maruti Can Launch Rs 5 Lakh Micro-SUV To Fight Tata Punch! (Full Details)
India’s largest automobile manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India Limited is now gearing up to surpass Hyundai and regain the top position in the SUV category.
And for this, the company has ambitious plans of launching 4 new SUVs, which also includes two brand new sub-4 meter SUVs and the next-gen Vitara Brezza.
The company will also be making its entry into the mid-sized SUV category. For this, Suzuki and Toyota JV are prepping a new mid-sized SUV, codenamed D22 for the domestic market, which will most probably make its debut in 2022.
Maruti Jimny
Maruti Jimny had showcased the 3-door Jimny mini off-roader at the Auto Expo 2020. But reports are that the brand will introduce the model in a 5-door version. The model also be costlier for a price sensitive Indian market, and will be launched by July 2022.
About the specifications of the car, there will be a 300mm longer wheelbase, and the length of the SUV has been increased by 300mm. Some leaked documents have also suggested that the new Jimny will be 3,850mm in length, 1,645mm in width and 1,730mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,550mm, while the ground clearance stands at 210mm.
The car will have a kerb weight of 1190kg, and will be powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with mild hybrid system. It will be paired with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic.
Maruti Baleno-Based Sub-compact SUV
MSIL is also working on a compact crossover, which is codenamed YTB for the Indian market. The new model will be placed between the S-Presso and the Vitara Brezza. Also, this car will be based on the Baleno platform and will compete against the likes of the newly launched Tata Punch. However, while there are no details about the launch of the new subcompact SUV, it will most likely be revealed sometime next year.
As per reports, the new car will be developed on the Heartect platform that is built with ultra and advanced high tensile steels. It will be powered by a a 1.2L 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that also powers the Baleno and the Swift twins. Additionally, the engine will most probably come with a mild hybrid system, which is expected to improve its efficiency.
