So far, over 1,590 electric vehicles (EV) have been deployed or under deployment in more than 160 central and state government departments in 49 cities as part of the e-Mobility program.
Procurement Of Electric Cars
Now, these electric cars are being given on a lease or outright purchase basis.
The idea is to replace the existing petrol and diesel vehicles taken on lease earlier.
On Monday, this information was provided in a written reply by the Minister of State for Heavy Industries Krishan Pal Gurjar in Rajya Sabha.
The conclusion of the procurement of various categories of electric cars through an international competitive bidding process was done by Convergence Energy Services Limited, a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).
Development Of Charging Network
Apart from this, CESL is also working on the development of the EV charging infrastructure.
It has also signed MoUs with multiple stakeholders across municipalities, DISCOMs for location assessment study, and charging infrastructures in their jurisdiction location.
As of today, the subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited has installed 301 EV chargers across India.
So far, thirteen states in the country including Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Gujarat and West Bengal have approved or notified dedicated EV policies to promote the adoption of electric vehicles.
National Electric Mobility Mission Plan
The National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) is intended to allow hybrid and electric vehicles to become the first choice for purchasers.
The aim is that these vehicles can replace conventional vehicles and thus reduce liquid fuel consumption in the country from the automobile sector.
Basically, the NEMMP 2020 national mission document provides the vision and the roadmap for the faster adoption of electric vehicles and their manufacturing in the country.
This plan is expected to enhance national fuel security, provide affordable and environmentally friendly transportation.
It will also enable the Indian automotive industry to achieve global manufacturing leadership.
The government has sanctioned 2,877 EV charging stations with Rs 500 crore in 68 cities across 25 states and union territories as part of phase-II of the FAME India (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India) scheme.
