Hyundai ‘s upcoming micro-SUV was codenamed AX1 and was teased for the very first time few days ago just ahead of its revelation in international markets late this year.
The Hyundai’s AX1 will be brand’s one of the smallest SUV and yet it will sit below the Venue in the carmaker’s global lineup. The teaser images gave us only the glimpses of it at the head and tail lamp designs of the upcoming SUV. The teaser images gave a hint at a retro mix and new age design elements. Based on the teasers and some previously seen spy shots, we have a rendering of Hyundai AX1 and of how it could look like in its production form.
Hyundai AX1
The first word that comes to mind looking at this AX1 offer is funny. The face looks very different with split lights and a quirky grille with the features of a triangular design. It has a flat bonnet and straight nose with a large circular headlamp with LED rings attached to the bumper.
The standalone LED DRLs in the upper part have a Hyundai logo in the middle, however, they look very inconsistent. Although the rear end is not visible in this offer, previous photos of spies have suggested that the AX1 will incorporate tail design, with second units placed on the bumper. Tail headlights will also incorporate the triangular shape of the detailed LED as seen on the grille here.
In this version, the AX1 proudly appears in a boxy silhouette, which almost looks like a Maruti Suzuki Ignis strap. It gets a square wheel with two-color wheels that look good and some character lines suggest that it can attract style inspiration to Hyundai Venue. It also features a set of functional roofing roofs, C-shaped handles on the rear gates and body armor around. We especially like the fact that the window line is not straight, but it turns upside down before the B-Pillar and the rear window get a completely different window line.
The AX1 will be supported by the same K1 platform that supports the Grand i10 Nios in India. The technical details and powertrain options are not yet known. However, it could only be a petrol model and may be powered by a 1.2L petrol engine from the Grand i10 Nios. At Hyundai they can also equip it with a 1.1L Santro engine with low-end models to keep costs low. Although we have not seen the interior images of the AX1, with the true fashion of Hyundai, you can expect it to be loaded until it is finished.
Production To Start Soon
The global launch of the SUV should not be long from now. Production of the series is expected to begin in Korea first with the production of the trial and will then go on sale in Korea in September this year. The Hyundai AX1 is likely to be on Indian cards. Depending on its price, it could compete with the popularity of the upcoming Tata HBX with Maruti Suzuki Ignis.
