New generation Vitara Brezza

The automaker is currently working on a new generation of the Vitara Brezza, now that Vitara Brezza has been on sale in India for quite some time now and has done quite well.

The new compact SUV which is currently in development, has been codenamed YXA. Since it will be sharing the platform, the production cost of the vehicle will be reduced. Also, the safety rating of the Vitara Brezza which is currently 4 stars in the Global NCAP crash test to go up. The design which made the current Brezza a hit in the Indian market, is expected to be same which is boxy and butch.

This new car will also use the current 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine which produces 105 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 138 Nm and be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a new 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox which is currently in development. The current ageing 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox shall be replaced with the new automatic gearbox. This car will be offered with 6 airbags, which is first Maruti Suzuki vehicle to have such a feature and is big thing. The current Brezza is already not the cheapest compact SUVs and with the new generation car, prices will go up. The automaker has a plan ready just in case any of the competitor undercuts its price. By the end of the year, we can expect the new Vitara Brezza to get unveiled.

Baleno based compact SUV

The prices of the Vitara Brezza will go up  post the introduction of the new generation version. Hence, for those who can not afford the car, the automaker is planning to develop a new cheaper compact SUV which will quintessentially be for those who could not afford the Vitara Brezza. This new compact SUV will be based on the Baleno and shall share the engine, underpinnings and the platform. This shall reduce the production costs as well as will enable the automaker to price it more competitively. This new model shall go heads on heads with less expensive compact SUVs such as Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite etc.

The car, codenamed currently as YTB, is expected to be a coupe-style crossover and will be powered by the same 1.2-litre DualJet naturally aspirated petrol engine that we have seen on the Baleno, Dzire and the Swift. 90 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 113 Nm shall be produced by the engine and it will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Baleno based compact SUV is expected to be unveiled sometime early next year.

Jimny LWB

A lot of hype around Jimny already happened post it’s showcasing by Maruti Suzuki in the Auto Expo 2020. However, since the market for the three-door vehicle market is too niche in India, there is a need for lot of investment to sell the car in India. However it seems that the manufacturer is considering introducing a larger version of the Jimny which could seat four people comfortably as a long-wheelbase version of the Jimny was spotted in Europe. The car with longer wheelbase and length would be able to accommodate four people comfortably. The new SUV which has been codenamed as YWD, shall have the same underpinnings as the regular Jimny.

It will be plonked with the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that will come with a 4×4 powertrain and the car is expected to launch in India sometime near June 2022.

S-Cross replacement

The S-Cros never did the sales which the manufacturer wanted it to. Hence now, they are working with Toyota on an S-Cross replacement. This car, codenamed as YFG, could be based on Toyota’s DNGA platform. The new SUV which SUV is expected to go on sale around late 2022 or early 2023 is expected to be a mid-size SUV and will be sold by Toyota as a rebadged version.
