The Western Railway (WR) region of Indian Railways has announced the addition of 14 new summer special trains, as well as the extension of the services of another 30 special trains until June of this year.

Western Railway is still operating 266 long-distance trains from before the COVID period. This represents nearly 90% of the 310 trains that operated before the implementation of COVID.

Several more trains will be soon run for the convenience of passengers due to the summer rush.

14 Summer Special Trains To Be Announced Soon

Alok Kansal, the General Manager of Western Railway, announced that 14 summer special trains have been selected for various destinations, including Patna, Gorakhpur, Bhagalpur, Ghazipur, and Guwahati, and will be launched in the coming days.

Similarly, train waiting lists are checked regularly, and new coaches are added to existing trains with a large number of Waitlisted passengers to alleviate the rush.

Also, to accommodate the increased number of passengers during the holiday season, 30 pairs of festival special trains were introduced in January 2021 and were extended until June 2021.

WR added more than 575 coaches to 42 trains to help with the extra traffic in March alone.

RPF /GRP And Marshall’s Staff Have Been Upped At Stations

GM Kansal urged passengers to prevent overcrowding at the railway station. He reiterated that only confirmed passengers will be permitted to enter the station, Other individuals will not be permitted to enter the station. The platform tickets are also not being issued following the COVID protocols.

Long-distance train passengers have been seen gathering at stations ahead of time to escape the curfew timings enforced by municipal / state authorities at certain stations.

To avoid overcrowding at the station, Western Railway has asked the concerned authorities to allow passengers with valid and verified tickets to travel during the curfew times.

To prevent unauthorised passengers, ticket checks have been stepped up. In March 2021, Rs. 2.75 crores in fines were collected in this regard.

Security has also been ramped up at stations and on trains. More than 570 RPF and GRP personnel have been deployed to escort 194 trains on eight different routes, often at night. MCGM has sent marshals to penalise passengers who do not wear masks when on railway property.

W. Rly has worked with the respective state governments and local authorities to carry out the vaccination programme, according to Kansal. Over the course of W. Rly., about 20,000 vaccine jabs were issued to workers and their families.

Daily, more than 250 vaccines are administered at Jagjivan Ram Hospital, while approximately 1000 vaccines are administered at Divisional Hospitals across W. Rly to medical and paramedical personnel, frontline staff & employees.100% RPF staff and almost 90% of medical staff have been covered.
