Xiaomi To Set Up Two Mobile And One Television Manufacturing Unit In India

Xiaomi, a Chinese smartphone manufacturing company, will now be setting up two new mobile manufacturing plants and a television plant in India.
In an interview, the India head and global vice president of Xiaomi, Manu Kumar Jain has said that 99% of the smartphones and 100% of its televisions that are sold in India will now be manufactured in the country itself.

He has said that exporting has already begun in small quantities last year to some nearby countries such as Bangladesh and Nepal. He said, “We would love to see India as an export hub. Right now, the No. 1 priority for the Indian business is to meet local demand, which we believe is significantly more than what we are supplying. Once we meet 100% of the local demand, we will start thinking of further increasing our exports.”

As per Jain, one of the two mobile manufacturing plants has already been set up and running. The company has reportedly partnered with DBG India, which is operating the plant in Haryana.

Plants In South And North India To Help Tackle Possible Lockdowns

The second plant is planned to be set up by BYD in Tamil Nadu, which is a Chinese electronics maker in Tamil Nadu. Apparently, if there are plants in both north and south India will help the company to deal with lockdowns, if imposed, in any of these sides of the country.

He has revealed that the business is a lot more stable and resilient, as compared to what it was nine months ago, in regards to the COVID-19 situation.

“At least with respect to covid, I think our business is a lot more stable and resilient, as compared to what it was nine months ago,” Jain added.
The television manufacturing market will be set up in Telangana by Radiant, which is a Hyderabad based TV manufacturer.
