No, Sony Is Not Being Sold To Microsoft
1st of all, it was a fake news.
Microsoft has no plans or inclinations to buy Sony for $2.3 billion.
But, how did this rumor started?
As per the reports, a fairly popular Spanish news portal called ‘Microsofters’ published a so-called ‘leak’, which informed that Microsoft is about to acquire Sony for $130 billion.
Soon, this ‘leak’ was translated into English by EN24 News, which failed to verify this news, and made it live.
This news by EN24 News spread like wildfire on social media and blogs, and fake news become big sensational news.
As per the fake news, Microsoft is about to acquire all the major divisions of Sony such as Sony Pictures, Sony Music, Playstation divisions, mobile phone divisions, TV division, camera division and all the associated patents.
This isn’t true.
Why This Is A Fake News?
Since neither Microsoft nor Sony has issued any statements regarding this news, it’s absolutely safe to assume that nothing of sorts is happening.
If this was indeed true, then this mega acquisition would have been the biggest news all over, but it didn’t happen.
No mainstream media reported this, and even if few did, the story was instantly deleted.
In fact, several mainstream media portals and reputed tech/business blogs have declared that this is a fake news, and Microsoft is not buying Sony.
Another reason why people actually believed this news is the fact that Microsoft has recently acquired Bethesda Softworks, for $7.5 billion.
This makes Microsoft the sole owner of popular games like Wolfenstein, The Elder Scrolls, Doom and Fallout, and people assumed that Microsoft can buy Sony as well, and gain more control over the gaming market.
Sony’s net worth is approximately $45 billion, with annual sales of $70 billion.
While Microsoft has assets worth $300 billion, with net profit of $44 billion last year.
