Smita Bhagat, HDFC Bank’s Country Head of Government Institutional Business and Startups confirmed this development, as she informed PTI: “We are always striving to provide the best banking facilities to all customers, even those living in remote areas of the country,”

Who Is A Bank Mitra?

Bank Mitra or Bank friend is a job under Govt of India’s Common Service Centers (CSCs), spread across length and breath of the nation.

Every bank hires Bank Mitra, whose main task is to visit deep rural areas, tier 2, 3 cities, and offer banking services to those who dont have any bank account.

Besides, bank mitra also provides help to existing customers, related with banking services. For banking services like opening a new account, opening a new investment plan, loan application, KYC etc can be helped by bank mitra.

In a way, bank mitra or bank friends have become an extended arm of banks to expanding their services in the rural areas, and to help existing customers who cannot avail banking services normally.
