Chicken Biryani Is India’s #1 Dish For Lockdown Craving; This Cake Beats Gulab Jamun
The COVID-19 pandemic has made many people cook at home and try new dishes or order-in with the dining at the restaurants restricted in the country to curb the spread of the virus.
In the few cities that Swiggy was operational, it has compiled and analysed statistics for the past few months in those cities to reveal how exactly India has been ordering and eating during lockdown.

The findings suggest,
Chicken Biryani, Masala Dosa, Gulab Jamun in Demand!
Chicken biryani topped the charts for overall orders, with 5,54,512 orders.
At the second and third position stood butter naan at 3,35,185 and masala dosa at 3,31,423 respectively.
Not only were the savoury dishes in demand, Swiggy saw people’s sweet tooth in demand too.
Swiggy got around 1, 29,000 orders for chocolate lava cakes.
It was followed by Gulab jamun at 84,558 orders and butterscotch mousse at 27,317 orders.
With the travel restrictions in place and people avoiding going out, nearly 1,20,000 birthday cakes were delivered to homes for pandemic birthday celebrations.
Swiggy’s Busiest Hour, Tips, Grocery Delivery and More!
Swiggy also analysed the time when the orders were placed and deciphered the when people ordered the most.
As per the findings, around 65,000 meals on average are placed by 8 pm every day. This was recorded as the busiest hour for the food delivery platform, its delivery executives and restaurant partners.
The company release revealed, tipping on average was recorded at Rs 23.65. Although one person gave a whopping tip of Rs 2,500.
The analysis also included online vegetable shopping. Swiggy delivered 323 million kgs of onions and 56 million kgs of bananas.
With people craving junk food in the lockdown, there were 3,50,000 orders for instant noodles.
Last but not the least, there were over 73,000 bottles of sanitizers and hand as well as 47,000 face masks delivered by Swiggy.
