Ola Breaks Into Top 5 Taxi Apps For Android Users, Globally; Gifts Gold Vouchers To Top Drivers!

Like initially pointed out by our Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the millennials today are heavily reliant on ride-sharing apps, particularly Ola and Uber. This trend has risen up so quickly and heavily that this has been one of the major reasons for today’s millennial generation to go up and buy a four-wheeler.

Well, for that we have covered a whole different article. Today however, we have a piece of news from Ola. The Indian ride-sharing app Ola has emerged to the list of the top five most downloaded apps worldwide, in the month of October.

Ola: 3rd Most Downloaded App on Android

Ola Cabs, founded by Bhavish Agarwal in 2010, has emerged to find itself as the fourth most downloaded ride-sharing app worldwide and third most downloaded app on Android, as per the app research firm, Sensor Tower’s data for October 2019.

The ride-hailing app’s overall rank was brought down mainly due to lesser downloads by iOS users, as compared to Android ones. Inspite of this, it has achieved this feat due to its recent foray in the overseas market.

At present, the Bengaluru-based firm offers ride-hailing services in about 20 cities internationally including nine in Australia, seven in the UK, and three in New Zealand. In fact, in the month of May this year, the Bhavish Agarwal-led firm  invested about $60 million into its international operations.

The company was contemplating on expanding in the US market too but has for now, kept aside this plan and instead, has been pondering upon the idea to expand in the European market.

Other Ride-Sharing Apps

One of Ola’s biggest rivals, Uber has found itself as the  most downloaded ride-sharing & taxi app worldwide for October 2019, with close to 12.4 million installs. A major section of its installations were contributed by iOS players too.

Uber generates about 50% of its gross bookings outside of its home market, topped the number of installs for both platforms Android and iOS. Brazil and India contributed the most percentage of downloads, 19% and 15% respectively. Uber runs operations in more than 60 countries and 400 cities.

At the second position was Grab, with over 3.8 million installations. It had most numbers of install in Indonesia, close to 38%.

DiDi, Yandex, Lyft and inDriver rounded out the top ten most installed ride-sharing & taxi apps worldwide for the month.
